The Web Outside: about
about The Web Outside
As the world becomes increasingly wired (or perhaps more aptly, wireless), people are beginning to expect the same immediacy, accessibility, and customization in their real lives as they experience on the web.
The Web Outside refers to the growing network of IP-addressable screens in social venues, public spaces, and retail places. People can now engage with gaming, commerce, search, and social networking applications by using a familiar web navigation style and treating their cell phone just like a mouse.
This blog focuses not only on the networks and applications themselves, but on the social and cultural ramifications of this growing “outernet.” Since The Web Outside– technically and conceptually– is still in its infancy, much exploration will also center around the current web and mobile solutions that are helping to shape it.
* The author also reserves the right to blog about cool new products and technologies that may not be exactly apropos, given that they’re intriguing enough to warrant a slight break in theme.
