Are you planning to use Wiffiti at an event, in your classroom or at a church?
In addition to pulling in real-time content to Wiffiti via tags (i.e. topics, keywords), you may want to try using hashtag“hashtags (a specific keyword used across social networks) for a richer experience. Here are a few tips:
- Create the screen using an easy to remember hashtag (to pull in tweets and Flickr messages). View it in full screen mode.
- Tell your audience what it is - it also helps to display the hashtag somewhere prominent.
- Make sure your screen has two tags, one with the “#” symbol and one without. (If the hashtag is #c299, the twitter search won’t pick up cs299 and vice versa.)
- Explain how to text messages to the screen (@loca#### + message to 87884).
- Explain how to set up their name when texting (text “name (desired name)” to 87884).
- Explain that tweets with the selected hashtag will show up (keep in mind that the speed of display is often dependent on the status of Twitter).
- Encourage them to test the system and to send Wiffiti messages (from mobile and web) or tweet with the given hashtags during the event.
- Keep in mind there is a manual moderation option for text-based messages. Go to ‘my screens’ and click on ‘timeline’ for the screen you are working with. In the top right corner for every text message is a blue X. Click on X to delete desired messages.
Don’t forget to send us pictures, or to tag them on flickr under Wiffiti!
Enjoy, and thanks to all of the event planners embracing Wiffiti already!
